Audiovisual Translation and Editing: Literary, Colloquial, Slang, and Taboo Language
On 19th November 2024, a lecture entitled Audiovisual Translation and Editing: Standard Language, Colloquialism, Slang, Vulgarisms was given to students by a film publicist and editor Jaroslav Hochel. Drawing on his rich experience from cooperation with several film festivals, as well as many years of editorial experience, he introduced the students to the practical aspects of editor’s job, with an emphasis on film synopses, subtitles and literary texts. The lecture was devoted to the aspects of standard and colloquial language, as well as to the issue of translating vulgar expressions or slang words with regard to the context, the adequacy of the communicative situation and their real use in practice. We believe that the lecture was enriching for the students and helped them to improve the knowledge of their mother tongue.
