Specifics of subtitles and subtitling of documentary films

The event is intended for students of translation and interpreting, translators who would like to work in audiovisual translation, as well as teachers of translation and subtitling. This year, the focus is on the documentary genre and strategies for translation transfer in the form of subtitles, but also voice-over.

Lecturer:
Kristijan Nikolić
Kristijan Nikolić received his bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the Department of English, Faculty of Humanities, University of Zagreb in 2000 and his doctorate in Translation Studies from the University of Vienna in 2012. He has been working at the Department of English, University of Zagreb since 2001. In August 2016, he was awarded an honorary research degree by the Centre for Translation Studies (CenTras) at University College London. Since 2017, he has been teaching translation technologies, audiovisual translation and localization at Middlesex University in London. Kristijan Nikolić was a member of the Executive Board of the European Society for Audiovisual Translation (ESIST) from 2008 to 2018 and was the founding president of the Croatian Association of Audiovisual Translators (DHAP). He has been working as a freelance subtitler for the Croatian Public Broadcaster (HRT) and SDI Media for 20 years.
